Driving Productivity and Safety in High-Rise Construction

In June 2019 RMD Kwikform launched a report on the state of the global high-rise and commercial building sector. The survey, which was completed by primary contractors (both specialist and general) and engineering consultants, looks at worldwide construction methods, market challenges, productivity and safety practices.

The study highlights areas where temporary works can have a significant impact on productivity and safety, and highlights where there is a need for education and knowledge transfer.

Key Findings

  • Adopting building methods that specifically reduce labour requirements was considered the number one factor in improving productivity
  • 60% of respondents want the “right solution” when it comes to a formwork and shoring solutions – cost was not a key determinant
  • 58% of contractors believe that individuals on-site need to take responsibility for health and safety
  • Slip forming was deemed the most popular construction method for high-rise cores
  • 67% of respondents consider basement excavations to be one of the most important things on any high-rise project
